Analysis of Eastenders Opening

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mwvKgQeMg8

This is the link to the EastEnders opening theme on youtube. Our task was to watch the sequence and then breaking it down as to why we thought that certain theme music was picked for that specific soap.

The main one we come up with at first was that its become iconic to that soap and as soon as you hear it you know what soap it is that's on.

The Opening for EastEnders is over dramatic, which sets up a big dramatic drum-roll to then play a softer more relaxed tune; Possibly trying to give away a clue as to expect what's to come from the soap, as if the theme music is the calm before the storm.

It's also Bland and doesn't really leave much to the imagination, it pretty much emphasizes the day to day life of EastEnders. As soon as the music for EastEnders starts the soap is already established so the title 'EastEnders' doesn't appear right till the end of the music by which time the viewers are already engaged in what they are about to see.

The first thing we see is a close up of a path of water which as the shot begins to zoom out on a spiral is revealed to be the river Thames, to the eventually zoom out to show the whole of the east end on a map, this could represent that along with the zoom that within Walford one problem then could occur, then another then another, a sort of Domino effect if you will, how something so small could spiral out of control and wildly out of proportion. Also in the title sequence everything slowly unfolds which could also be another meaning for how everything will unfold 'develop' within the programme, also compared to the original title sequence this one has been modernised by changing all the colours to make them seem more realistic.
